Overview

Jomsom Muktinath Trekking with ABC is three of the most famous and trekked regions in Nepal. This trek provides the greatest ethnic diversity in Nepal, which cannot be found anywhere else. Along this scenic path, you can pass through villages inhabited by various ethnic groups such as Thakali, Gurung, and Magar, with Tibetan culture predominating at higher elevations. There are several authentic Tibetan monasteries in this region. This hike requires prior walking experience as well as a decent level of physical fitness.

Following a 6-7-hours drive or a quick flight to Pokhara, the scenic lake city west of Kathmandu, we explore several central tourist attractions before concluding with a fantastic view of the mighty Himalayas. On the preceding day, we fly to Jomsom and trek to Kagbeni. From Kagbeni, we climb steeply to Muktinath. It is one of the most famous Hindu holy sites with 108 taps for purified water.

In Muktinath, many tribal Tibetans and Buddhists reside and visit the temple. You can also see underground fires that are continuously burning due to natural gas. Then walk through the windy and sandy Kaligandaki Valley to a charming town with a noble Thakali population, Marpha. Also, famous for apple production. Then descend to Kalopani, Tatopani, and Sikha. On the following day, trek to Ghorepani, and the next day hike to Poonhill early in the morning.

The sunrise over the skyline from Poon Hill is the pinnacle of this Ghorepani Poonhill trek, but, before that, the path crosses via picturesque villages, thick rhododendron forests teeming with birds, and deep sub-tropical valleys. We trekked to Tadapani on the same day. On the following day, we pass through Chomrong, Bamboo, Deurali, and finally at Annapurna Base Camp through Machhapuchhre Base Camp.

On the way, we get a glimpse of majestic views of the Machhapuchhre along with Annapurna South, Mt. Hiunchuli,  Annapurna I, Annapurna III, Gandharvachuli, and Gangapurna. Then retrace on the same trail passing Bamboo, then Jhinu Danda, where we can relax our bodies and sweep away our trek tiredness by the natural hot spring. The next day passes Tolkha, Phedi, then Pokhara, and the trip ends at Kathmandu.

The Jomsom Muktinath via ABC 21 days trek is your thing if you are looking for an excellent trekking trail in Nepal. At any time of the year, you can go on this trek.

Highlights

    • Step on Annapurna Base Camp via Macchapuchre Base Camp
    • Views of the High Himalayas and their glaciers are breathtaking.
    • The sunrise and mountain views from Ghorepani and Poonhill are stunning.

Flights, on the other hand, are often canceled if the weather conditions are hazardous. Once we reach Jomsom, we will have breakfast there and then start to trek to Kagbeni. From Jomsom, it will take around 3 hours.

Day 5 Trek to Muktinath (5 hrs)

From Kagbeni to Muktinath, we make a steep ascent today. Muktinath is a Buddhist and Tibetan ethnic group’s home as well as a Hindu pilgrimage site. Muktinath is known for the sacred water that flows from 108 carved spouts in a poplar orchard surrounding Bishnu Temple.

Day 6 Trek to Marpha (6-7 hrs)

Today we’ll return to Jomsom before moving on to Marpha. We’ll be walking through the windy and sandy Kaligandaki Valley. As a result, we should start our walk early in the morning. Marpha is a charming town with a noble Thakali population. The production of apples and apple brandy is well-known in this region.

Day 7 Trek to Kalopani (5-6 hrs)

We go on to Kalopani, after breakfast, passing through the fascinating village of Khobang, which has narrow pathways. We can either stop for lunch in Larjung or carry on to Kokhethanti for another hour and a half. We arrive at Kalopani after a few hours of trekking, where we can see Annapurna and Fang peaks.

Day 8 Trek to Tatopani (6-7 hrs)

Today, we’ll make our way from Kalopani to Tatopani, which implies a hot spring that’s ideal for a relaxing soak. It is widely usual that bathing in a hot spring will aid in the treatment of skin ailments. Besides, it provides both physical and mental nourishment.

Day 9 Trek to Sikha (4-5 hrs)

We will leave Tatopani on this day and trek to Shikha, which is located at an elevation of 1935 m. It takes about 4-5 hours to complete.

Day 10 Trek to Ghorepani (4-5 hrs)

We start walking to Ghorepani village early in the morning and continue throughout the day, passing through grassy meadows and thick rhododendron forests. We pitched our tent at the pass to get the best view of the sun setting over the Annapurna Range and Mt Dhaulagiri.

Day 11 Trek to Tadapani with an early morning hike to Poon Hill (4-5 hrs)

The day starts early morning, we will get ready for our trek and leave at around 5 am. It will take around 45 mins to reach the viewpoint of Poonhill from where we can get the most beautiful sunrise view. It will be crowded so to get to the perfect place we need to get here earlier than others.

After spending some time observing one of the most beautiful views we retrace back to the lodge at Ghorepani, have our breakfast, and leave for Tadapani. The path will be full of exciting pictorial views of surrounding mountains, Rhododendron forest, and lively villages. After around 6 hrs walk we will reach Tadapani, where we will stay over.

Day 12 Trek to Chomrong

Leaving Tadapani today, we will go uphill and downhill before we reach Chhomrong. We will cross Kimrong Khola, pass through a large Rhododendron forest, and cross a suspension bridge to reach Chhomrong, today’s destination. Chhomrong is a beautiful village placed on the lap of the gigantic Annapurna massive.

Day 13 Trek to Bamboo (2310m/7579ft, 5-6 hrs)

The trek starts with breakfast at Chhomrong and then walks on 2500 stone steps before reaching Chhomrong Khola, then crosses a suspension bridge and climbs uphill to Sinuwa. If the weather remains clear, we will have fantastic clear mountains and surrounding views. After a short break at Sinuwa, we resume our trek towards Bamboo, passing through the rhododendron forest. After 6 hrs, we will reach our destination today. We will have lunch and take a rest. In the evening, we will visit the surroundings.

Day 14 Trek to Deurali (3230m/10,597ft, 4-5 hrs)

On this day of the trek, the first part passes through the damp and cold bamboo forest. The trail gradually ascends with fewer steep sections until we move out in the sun with astounding views of the glacier river. Then a sheer rises via a drier forest before entering Hinku cave and then descends to a river before ascending to Deurali. The trail offers diverse flora and fauna, and the village scene is enchanting with rivers and waterfalls. Remaining time, enjoy the pictorial view, and take a rest.

Day 15 Trek to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m/13,550ft, 4-5 hrs) via Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3700m/12139ft)

Today we climb gently through a river bed and then over a steep trail to the mountainside. The journey from Deurali to Machhapuchhre Base Camp is slightly arduous with superb majestic views of the Machhapuchhre along with Annapurna South, Mt. Hiunchuli,  Annapurna I, Annapurna III, Gandharvachuli, and Gangapurna, which is a delightful adventure. After spending some time observing the surroundings, we turn left and ascend smoothly towards Annapurna Base Camp. On the way, we can adore dramatic glimpses of the Himalayan horizon.

After a few hour’s walk, we reach Annapurna Base Camp with a prodigious surrounding view of magnificent peaks. We then set camp there and spent the rest of the day there.

Day 16 Trek to Bamboo (2310m/7579ft, 7–8 hrs)

Today is the backtrack day. With the early morning view mostly witnessing the phenomenal sunrise view from the Base Camp, we retrace back. Passing through the tiny settlements, we head towards Bamboo.

Since today is a long day trek, we have lunch on the way and witness the overwhelming views. Passing the forested area with bamboo and rhododendron trees, we reach Bamboo. Long day trek must be tiring, so we put our stuff in the lodge and take a rest.

Day 17 Trek to Jhinu Danda (1760m/5774 ft, 5-6 hrs)

On this day of the trek, we backtrack on the same trail, which we took a few days ago from Chhomrong(ascending to Kuldighar pursued by a downhill to Chhomrong Khola and then walking on some stone steps).

Once we reach Chhomrong, we take a break and then a few more steep descent, and we reach Jhinu Danda. Then, we walk downhill for a few minutes to enjoy the hot springs. If the weather is sunny, then we will have miraculous views on the way.

Day 18 Trek to Tolkha

You’ll have steel thighs by now, and you’ll be pretty good at holding your bag! Trek down to the river and cross it before continuing to Landruk and Tolkha.

Day 19 Trek to Phedi or Kande and drive back to Pokhara

Today is the last day of the trek, and it’s just a quick descent through Dhampus village from Pothana to Phedi – well done, you’ve made it! It’s just a 45-minute drive to Pokhara after lunch, where you’ll check into your hotel for a well-deserved shower and a post-trek party to celebrate life’s small pleasures.

Day 20 Fly/Drive back to Kathmandu

Since it’s a long day, we start the day early in the morning. After breakfast at the hotel, we drove back to Kathmandu on the same route which we took previously. After around 7 hrs, we reach the hotel and then check in and relax.

Or if you fly back to Kathmandu it will take less time to reach there and you also get a chance to explore Kathmandu valley. If you are flying then you will take a morning flight at 7:45 am and by 10 am you will check-in in at the hotel. So you will have enough time to do shopping or explore the valley or you can relax the whole day, it’s your choice.

In the evening, we will have a farewell dinner with the trekking crew, guide, and other staff. Enjoy the farewell dinner, and then have a sound sleep at the hotel of Kathmandu.
