Overview

The Everest Three Passes Trek, with its circular path, is unquestionably Nepal’s most extensive trek, covering the majority of the Everest area. It features fantastic trekking trails that pass through the Gokyo Valley and Everest Base Camp, offering breathtaking views of the world’s highest mountain. It is also one of the most dangerous treks due to the three high passes, named Renjo La, Cho La, and Kongma La, that must cross. These passes will provide you with breathtaking views of the Himalayas from various angles. You will discover the Everest region’s hidden gems by trekking the Everest Three High Passes.

Leaving Kathmandu, we take the scenic flight to Lukla, where we meet our trekking crew and begin our trek to Phakding. The next day as we resume our journey, we pass by tiny hillside settlements clustered under massive glaciers. You’ll trek via the iconic Khumbu region of Nepal, which boasts spectacular scenery. At the world’s most endurance event, this is where ancient civilization meets unsurpassed natural splendor to cultivate an aura of true glory. Finally, we enter the gateway of Everest, Namche Bazar. After that, we’ll visit Namche Bazar and hike to the Everest View Hotel for panoramic views of Mt. Everest and the surrounding mountains.

Before returning to Namche Bazar, we’ll stop by the Hillary School, Hillary Hospital, and Khumjung village. After two days at Namche Bazar, we trek to Phortse and then Dingboche and explore the last Khumbu village and old monastery of Dingboche. Then trek passes by stone-walled fields, Imja Khola valley, and then proceeds to Bibre, directly across the valley leads us to Chhukung village. The trail will offer spectacular views of Lhotse, Island Peak, Ama Dablam, Makalu, and others.

The next day will be exhausting and the longest day, where we pass Kongma La pass, which is quite demanding if the weather is not good.  From the top, the surrounding views are magnificent, which swept away our tiredness. Then descend, which is more arduous until we climb to the moraine and then walk via the famous Khumbu glacier to Lobuche.  Then we trek to Gorak Shep and hike Everest Base Camp for a few hours and witness the beauty of the surrounding mountains.

The following day, we leave early for Kalapathar in order to arrive at the viewpoint before sunrise and enjoy the spectacular sunrise view from Mt. Everest.  After experiencing the glorious dawn for several hours, we retrace our steps back to Dzongla. The next day is the most challenging trek day, where we cross Chola pass via Thaknak and then enter the stunning turquoise lakes valley, Gokyo, and cross Gokyo Ri. After that, trek to Renjo La, which is quite thrilling and challenging, and then Lungden, Thame, and finally Namche.  We fly back to Kathmandu via the scenic Lukla flight after saying our goodbyes to the trekking team.

Day 3 Trek to Namche Bazaar

After the exciting flight to Lukla, today is one of the important days for this trek. Today we trek to Namche Bazar, which is one of the attraction factors of this trek, and Namche is the “Gate to the Everest”. From Phakding, it takes 6-7 hrs to reach Namche Bazar so we start our trek after breakfast.

After a 6-7 hrs trek, we finally reach Namche Bazar, where you can get any kind of facility. Then, we check-in into the hotel and rest. Somewhere in the middle of the trek, we have lunch so we take a rest and explore around Bazar in the evening.

Day 4 Rest and Acclimatization Day at Namche Bazaar

On this acclimatization day at Namche Bazar, we will first explore around the Bazar of Namche and buy necessary items then we hike to the Everest View Hotel from where we will get the pictorial views of Mt. Everest and the surrounding mountain. After that, we will explore the Hillary School, Hillary Hospital, Khumjung village, and come back to the Namche Bazar.

Day 6 Trek to Dingboche

After breakfast, we climb uphill and leave Phortse with pictorial views of the village. The path is a stone steep slope with beautiful views of Imja valley to Tengboche Monastery. We will stop there to explore the Tengboche monastery. After that, we again walked further to reach our destination Dingboche.

Day 7 Rest and Acclimatization Day at Dingboche

Since Dingboche is the last village of the Khumbu region, we will take a tour around Dingboche. We will explore Dingboche Monastery, the Sherpa village, and take part in local activities.

Day 8 Trek to Chhukung

After breakfast, we leave Dingboche and pass by stone-walled fields and Imja Khola valley before entering glacier moraines between the towering Himalayas. The trail then proceeds to Bibre, directly across the valley, while the path ahead divides by icy streams. When we arrive, we can also choose to hike further to a rocky knoll off Chukhung Ri, which offers spectacular views of Lhotse, Island Peak, Ama Dablam, Makalu, and others.

Day 9 Trek from Chukum to Lobuche via Kongma La Pass

Today is the first pass or one of the exhausting and longest days of the trip. After all, we pass the Kongma La pass, which can be difficult because of the heavy snow on the trail. As it’s a long day, we leave early in the morning. Cross Chukung and gradually begin to climb via the landslide until we reach a grassy hill, from where Dingboche and Tyangbouche are noticeable.  Until you arrive at a big lake, the walk will be smooth, but the last few minutes’ steps might be steep, and a bit crawls to the top of Kongma La Pass. From this point, the surrounding views are magnificent, which swept away our tiredness. After spending some time, we descend, which is more arduous than before. So listen to the guide and stick with him until we climb to the moraine and then walk via the famous Khumbu glacier to Lobuche.

Day 10 Hike to EBC then trek Gorakshep

One of the most important days, the day to step on the base camp of Everest. On this day, at first, we trek to Gorak Shep and put our luggage in the lodge then start to hike towards Everest Base Camp.  Once we reach the camp, we explore around and witness the beauty of the surrounding mountains. After spending some hours witnessing the glorious sunrise view, we retrace back to Dzongla. Take some rest then you can explore around and take part in local activities.

Day 12 Trek to Cho La: Thaknak

It will be the most challenging trek. One of the three high passes in the Everest Region is Chola Pass. We need to take a crucial walk to Chola Pass through the tilted glacier. From the ridge, we can get views of Amadablam, Baruntse, Lobuche, and Cholatse peaks. Lowering down from Chola Pass, we will walk down Chola Pass through the chasms to Thaknak.

Day 13 Trek to Gokyo

Today we walked across the Nazgumpa Glacier. It is the deep glacier system of Nepal and the second glacier system in the world. We will follow the zigzag path that makes the melting snow slippery. We take 6 hrs of a walk to reach Gokyo valley which is famous for six frozen lakes and Gokyo Ri Mountain.

Day 14 Trek to Gokyo Ri

Gokyo Ri has one of the best views of Everest. We get the fifth lake and Kusum Kanguru, Gyangchung Kang, Kantega, Makalu, Changtse, Everest, Pumori, Lhotse, Nuptse, and other mountain views. We then descend to Gokyo.

Day 15 Trek to Renjo La: Lungden

One of the main highlights of this trek is crossing the Renjo La Pass, which is quite thrilling and challenging. When we descend towards the remote northern valley via the jagged landscapes and turf, recall us of the Tibetan valleys across the border. The adventure begins slightly uphill into the grassy areas and gets abrupt as we approach our destination.

From the top of the pass, we get excellent views of Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Makalu, Gyachung Kang, and Gokyo Lakes. After crossing by Renjo La Pass, we trek downhill into the lush pastures to Bhote Koshi Valley into Lungden.
