Mt. Kanchenjunga (8586m) is the world’s third-highest peak. This trek follows the border in-between Sikkim and Tibet circling the massive peak. The trek will also guide you toward the north and south base camps of Kanchenjunga. The camps are remote, pristine, and breathtaking.
This whole trip will take you to the heavens which will leave you with memories that will last a lifetime. Moreover, there are several challenges for you thrill seekers. The challenges along the trials such as Altitudes as high as 5100m (Lapsang La Pass 5108m) and (Sinon/Mirgin La Pass 4650m)
The derived meaning of Mount Kanchenjunga is “The Mountain with Five Treasures hidden in the snow”. It lies in the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area that covers around 2035sq km and it was established in 1997.
The Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Project (KCAP) was classed as a Global Eco Region by WWF. KCAP is filled with a number of beautiful flora and fauna. Animals such as the red panda, the wild bear, musk deer, rhesus macaw, blue sheep and the enigmatic and elusive leopard of the white- The Snow Leopard can be found in this region. On an estimation, there are around 1200 types of flowering plants, more than 60 kinds of orchids and around 30 species of the rhododendron plant which during spring, brightens the whole trial.
Moreover, four other peaks beside the Kanchenjunga lay on the sides of this beautiful region. Kanchenjunga West, which is also known as the Yalung Kamg (8,586m) is one of those exact peaks. In total, there are more than fifteen peaks reaching the altitude as high as 7000m. Kambachen (7,903m), Jongsong (7,483m), The Twins (7,350m) and Tent Peak (6,365m) are some of these peaks.
These mystical pieces of land and the high peaks of the snow are carried by five major glaciers. Zumu, Talung and Rathong that flows into Sikkim, and from the west the Kanchenjunga and Yulang Glacier flow onto the currents of Tamor River in Nepal.

Welcome to the mystical land of the Nepalese nature. As you arrive to the Tribhuvan Int’l Airport, you will be greeted and transferred to a Hotel of high pristine. After arriving at your hotel you may rest or explore the sides of Thamel and buy your necessities for the trek.
Tomorrow is the day we start our journey to the mist of the Kanchenjunga and to appease your excitement we’ve left a day for you to prepare for the trek. This is a day for you to collect all the information, get oriented and perhaps even sight see a little part of the Kathmandu Valley.
Our journey begins and we depart from a morning flight (45 minutes) that will take us to Bharadpur from where we’ll drive to Illam (which is one of the most beautiful cities in Nepal and is famous for its tea brand).
After sightseeing glimpses of the land of the tea (Illam) we will take a Jeep to drive to Chehirwa which will take us around five to six hours depending on the weather and the condition of the road. The next day is our day to start the trek.
And so we begin, this journey of trekking the lands of Kanchenjunga, to trek, to travel and to experience. Our trek begins from Sekathum which lies at a ground altitude of around the 1600s (meter). Our daily trek will be not more than 6 hours a day but this may change according to that day’s weather.
Gyabala is a hamlet in Nepal with an elevation of 2748m. It is situated near to Phale and Amjiloso which are one of the most beautiful highlights of the journey. Today’s trek will be not more than 7 hours, again this may change according to the day’s weather.
Today’s trek will take you to the Ghunsha River which lies in the altitude of around the 1500ms. The river flows like a current with such a beauty as if the Kanchenjunga’s melting turns the river into art itself. Today’s trek will be not more than 6 hours.
Today is acclimatization day meaning today is a day where we let your body adapt to the climate’s new conditions. We’ll hike around to sight see some of the beauties surrounding Ghunsha (3475m) whilst letting your body apart. After today, the trek’s altitude is going higher and higher.
The acclimatization day was for this exact and drastic shift (rise) in the altitude from 3600m of the Ghunsa to the 4100m of the Khambachen. Today we’ll also climb up through a craggy area through moraines and whenever you’ll look around, be sure to be surrounded by superb panoramas of the hills and the mountains.
The Lhonak is a glacial-moraine trans-Himalayan grassland valley between the circuits of the Kanchenjunga. If you do not understand what that means, let me simply. The Lhonak is one of the highlights of this whole trek with the amount of nuance in natural beauty it provides. Also, today’s trek will be not more than 6 hours and the uphill may be one of the most challenging.
oday will be one of the most challenging and physically demanding days for the trek. We will walk to the Northern Basecamp of Pangpema (around 5000m) and also return to Lhonak (4300m). The accomplishment of today will be a caravan and one of the biggest highlight this trek has to offer.
The highpoints are over, at least for today as we trek back to a downhill route from Lhonak (4300m) to Ghunsha (3745m). The trek will almost be like a walk as today’s trek will be laid back and kind of a calming day for your physicality.
The downhill day is over and we are back to the route of up hills, to the route of seeking all the blossoms offered by this physically demanding trekking. It is only fair that we have to travel such high distances to see such rare beautiful sites. The trek for today will not be more than five hours and this again will depend on that day’s weather condition.
Another day of trekking the up-hill and another unforgettable day of seeing such beauties of nature that cannot be described by mere words. Today we’ll trek from Selele (4290m) to Tsheram (3870m). Today’s trek will be a mix of both (a little up-hill and a little downhill) and we’ll not trek more than five hours.
The Yalung Base Camp is set up at the height of 4750m and it takes around 4 hours to reach the summit of the base camp from Tsheram 3870m. The journey will be thrilling and exciting as the altitude will be as high as 4900m. Returning to Ramche 4580m will also be filled with scenery that look as if they’re derived from heaven itself.
From Ramche (4580m) today, we will hike to the Tortang also known as Torangdin (2980m) of the Kanchenjunga Region. From the northern part of Tortang you will be able to see an amazing view of Mount Kanchenjunga in all its glory. Today’s hike will be no more than 5 hours and today will be relatively easier (in terms of physical ability) than other days.
Though today will be mostly down-hill, the trek for today is a lot longer than any other days so all trekkers will be advised to pack or carry lunch. Yamphudin again, is a hamlet in Nepal and is situated nearby to the hamlets like Mammangkhe and Phumphedanda. Today will also be relatively easier (in terms of physical ability) and today will also give you a down-hill view of the whole of the Kanchenjunga.
And oh look, the trekking is over. We are now at Kanyam 1800m and the physically challenging, the sweat brewing, the thrill giving trekking is over. But what we are left with now will be enough of a fuel for the rest of our life itself-memories. We will take a jeep from Yamphudin (1692m) to Kanyam (1800m) and the jeep drive will take around seven hours (but this may change according to the weather of that day).
From the drive from last night, we take the 19th day to again acclimatize to the normal world of the 1500m-ish altitude. Today will be a calm and disposed day of walking around, taking pictures, connecting, and simply sightseeing the beauty offered by Kanyam. Kanyam offers a wide view of the city of Illam which is majestic in its own nature.
Though our trekking may have ended, our journey hasn’t. From Kanyam 1800m we will again drive to Bhadrapur (exactly the way we got here) which will take not more than 3 hours (depending on the day of course). From Bhadrapur we will drive up to Chandragadi Airport from which we will abroad a domestic flight to the valley of Kathmandu (45 minutes).
And congratulations, our journey is almost over. There is so much we are left with today. Memories, connections, friendships, stories but most importantly an experience, an experience of the highest pristine. To recollect and to readjust we leave you today to enjoy the day as you’d wish. You may travel the valley’s offerings from cultural sites like Bhakthapur Durbar Square to religious sites like The Pashupathi Temple, today’s will is completely in your hands.
We cannot believe our journey is over. But the ending of it all is what makes it such an amazing experience, or a memory of its own. Our representative will drive you to the Tribhuvan Int’l Airport and bid you farewell.
