Trip Overview

The Upper Dolpo 27-day trekking is an incredible adventure that takes you through the remote and pristine region of Dolpo in Nepal. This trek offers a unique opportunity to explore a hidden gem of the Himalayas, where ancient traditions, untouched landscapes, and rich cultural heritage are beautifully preserved.

The Upper Dolpo region is located in the western part of Nepal, bordering Tibet. It was opened for trekking in 1989, and since then, it has captivated the hearts of trekkers seeking an off-the-beaten-path experience. The region is known for its rugged terrain, deep gorges, high passes, and stunning landscapes, including the iconic Phoksundo Lake, the deepest lake in Nepal.

The trek starts with a flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, followed by another flight to Jhupal, a small airstrip in Dolpo. From Jhupal, the journey continues on foot, traversing through remote villages, ancient monasteries, and traditional Tibetan-style settlements. The route takes you through Shey-Phoksundo National Park, a protected area known for its diverse flora and fauna, including rare wildlife like snow leopards and blue sheep.

Throughout the trek, you will be surrounded by breathtaking panoramas of snow-capped peaks, barren landscapes, cascading waterfalls, and dense forests. You’ll also have the opportunity to witness the unique cultural practices of the local people, who follow a blend of Tibetan Buddhism and Bon traditions.

The trek involves crossing high passes, including the challenging Kang La Pass (5,360m) and the Saldang La Pass (5,200m), which offer spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. The highest point of the trek is at Shey Gompa (4,500m), a historic monastery that holds immense religious significance.

The Upper Dolpo trek is considered a strenuous and remote trek, requiring good physical fitness, endurance, and previous trekking experience at high altitudes. The accommodation along the route is basic, with teahouses or camping options available, adding to the wilderness experience.

At Himalayan Marvel Adventures, we prioritize your safety and comfort. Our experienced guides will accompany you throughout the trek, ensuring that you have an unforgettable experience while providing valuable insights into the local culture, history, and traditions.

Overall, the Upper Dolpo 25-day trek is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that combines breathtaking natural beauty, cultural immersion, and a sense of exploration in one of the most secluded regions of Nepal.
